Álvaro Palacios: A Pioneer of Priorat
Álvaro Palacios is one of Spain’s most influential winemakers, recognised for helping revive the historic Priorat wine region. After studying winemaking in Bordeaux and gaining experience at Château Pétrus, he arrived in Gratallops in 1989, inspired by the potential of the region’s old vines and distinctive landscape. His work helped establish Priorat as an internationally respected source of fine wines.
Rooted in the Dramatic Landscapes of Priorat
The vineyards lie across the steep hillsides of Priorat in Catalonia, where distinctive llicorella slate soils contribute to the wines’ structure and mineral character. Old-vine Garnacha is central to the estate’s identity, complemented by Cariñena and other grape varieties. The challenging terrain and meticulous vineyard management are essential to expressing the region’s unique terroir.

Álvaro Palacios is celebrated for wines including L’Ermita, Finca Dofí, Les Terrasses and Camins del Priorat.
