The Metz family’s wine history began in 1904, in the town of Epfig, in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard. Winemaker in this village until the 1950s, then producer-trader in the famous Bercy cellars in Paris, Mr. Arthur Metz returned to his native village in 1972 to expand the family business. He then managed to make it one of the most important and prestigious in Alsace.
In 1991, the Metz family sold the business to the Helfrich family, who have since perpetuated the history and growth of the wine house. In 1997, Arthur Metz expanded by uniting with the Laugel family house, another beautiful and large operation, founded in 1895 and located in Marlenheim. Built around passionate men and women, Maison Arthur Metz today has more than 1000 hectares of vineyards, integrated into sustainable viticulture. It thus has all the necessary assets to create environmentally friendly wines and crémants, which express their origins and terroirs, by combining the modernity of viti-wine techniques. In recent decades, the House has strengthened its winegrower-harvester activity and now operates 85 hectares of owned vineyards, directly producing 15 Alsatian Grands Crus, from different terroirs and grape varieties.
Over time, Arthur Metz has created a strong and unwavering bond between its winegrowers and its consumers, lovers of great wines. The House knows how to question itself every day in order to continually improve. Today it offers an exceptional range of wines and Crémants, all unique and from the most prestigious terroirs, from the north to the south of the Alsatian vineyard. Wine is our passion, it is the fruit of our work and we are delighted to be able to share it with you.
