Château de Rayne Vigneau is a winery in the south of Sauternes. The vineyard is located on a gravel mound that overlooks the Sauternes region. The property is 79 hectares and produces about 20,000 cases of wine each year.
The winery’s sweet white wine is ranked as Premier Cru Classé, which translates to “First Growth” in French. The wine is medium-bodied with notes of apricot, pear, honey-coated fruits, and white florals. It has a sweet finish with a rush of acidity. Some recommend pairing it with a pear tart and vanilla ice cream, or fresh and dried figs. The winery also produces a dry white wine.
The Pontac family, who are well known for creating great Bordeaux wines, acquired the property in 1834.
