Description

La Scolca

The name La Scolca comes from the name “Sfurca” which means viewpoint. In the past there was a farm on the land of La Scolca that served as a lookout. The name La Scolca is synonymous worldwide with Gavi, a superior dry white wine from Piedmont. In the period 1917-1919 the estate came into the possession of the Soldati family. La Scolca is the oldest winery in the region and is still run by one and the same family. The wines of La Scolca are internationally acclaimed by many stars and the Gavi dei Gavi “Black Label” is even the house wine of Queen Elizabeth.

After the manual harvest, a traditional vinification takes place. After a long maturation in the yeast cells (“sur lie”), the wine is bottled.

The Gavi wine and the La Scolca winery are inseparable. As a forerunner in the Gavi region, the meteoric rise of Gavi wine is based on the Soldati family, whose grandfather bought wheat-growing land in Rovereto a hundred years ago. Today, along with his daughter, Chiara Soldati, the fifth generation is managing the functionality of the winery with great passion and dedication. As early as 1993, the La Scolca winery founded the Tutela del Gavi consortium to protect and promote the reputation of Gavi di Gavi wine. Today, many Gavi winegrowers are members of the Consortium – further proof of the foresight of the La Scolca Winery.
