Luce della Vite has been founded at the beginning of the 1990s by the Tuscan aristocrat and winemaker, Vittorio Frescobaldi, and the renowned American winemaker Robert Mondavi. They were brought together by the desire of creating excellent Tuscan wines in Montalcino. Luce della Vite means “light of vine”, as a reference to the sun: the source of life, energy and warmth.
Luce is the first wine to be made in Montalcino from powerful structured Merlot – first introduced by the Frescobaldi Family in the Seventies – and elegant Sangiovese – the most important grape variety in this territory. As Vittorio Frescobaldi put it, “it is not an empty-headed beauty, but a wine with true intellect.” Luce is now considered one of the most praised Tuscan wines.
Lucente is the wine made from the same varieties of grapes. It owes its special character to having been aged in barriques for 12 months.
Brunello di Montalcino – the wine made from Sangiovese grapes – is the highest-quality wine inspired by unique territory: it was first made in Montalcino in the second half of the 19th century and was the first in Italy to achieve the DOCG status, back in 1980.
In the course of its relatively short history Luce delle Vite winery has justified its name and created exclusive divine beverages, listed among the greatest world-famous Tuscan wines. The house is now owned by Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, one of the largest winemaking companies in Italy.
