The Peter Mertes Family Vineyards currently comprise nearly 100 hectares, primarily steep slopes along the Mosel and Saar rivers. The wine estate includes impressive vineyard sites of world fame such as: Zeltinger Himmelreich, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Nonnenberg, Graacher Himmelreich, Domprobst, Abtsberg, Bernkasteler Badstube, Johannisbrünnchen, Lay, Bernkastel-Kueser Kardinalsberg, Sommerauer Schlossberg and Trierer Domherrenberg. Next to the flagship varietal Riesling, the winery also cultivates other varietals such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder. Aside from the sites located along the Mosel river, the family vineyards also entail 4 hectares on the river Ruwer and alongside the river Saar.
When the winegrower Peter Mertes established the winery in 1924, he had a special passion for wine from the Mosel region and was invested in promoting regional wines of superior quality. It is in that tradition that today.
